Installation & Technical Support

Who is responsible for carrying out the installation of my box?

Most utilities companies state that it is the property owners responsibility to maintain the meter box as it’s seen as part of the fabric of the house. Mitras only manufacture meter box products, therefore are not responsible for carrying out any of the installation work.

Who is responsible for replacing the box if it breaks?

It is the property owners responsibility for each meter box connected to the property. Your energy supplier is only responsible for the energy supply and meter much like Mitras is only responsible for the meter box.

I require technical/specification information or installation advice regarding a product, where can I find this?

Technical information for our products can be found on individual product pages where you have access to technical data corresponding to the selected product.

Why did my energy provider give me your details?

It is the property owners responsibility for each meter box connected to the property. Your energy supplier is only responsible for the energy supply and meter. If your meter box is broken you can purchase one through our website.

Can you send out someone to fix or replace by box?

Mitras do not offer an installation service, we simply manufacture and supply meter boxes for public sale. Most boxes are easy to fit without requiring any special equipment or technical capability.

What do I do if I can smell gas in or around my property?

Call 0800 111 999 immediately. Your gas supplier will send someone around to check your supply – they should not charge you for this safety service but please check directly with them.

Can I install an electricity meter into a semi-buried box?

No, electricity meters have to be installed above ground – moisture and electricity don’t mix.

How high from the final ground level does an electricity meter box need to be installed?

Minimum 750mm, maximum 1050mm from ground to bottom of the box.

Can I put an electricity meter and a gas meter in the same box?

No, they’re made to different specifications from different materials.

Can I put more than one meter of the same type in one box?

No, each box can only accommodate one meter.

My semi-buried gas meter box is full of water – is this a problem?

Yes, contact your gas supplier immediately.

Can I drill fixings holes in my new recessed gas meter box?

No, the box must be intact in case of a gas leak at the meter as any holes in the box would allow escaping gas into the cavity of the house.

How do I choose the correct replacement door?

Measure the broken door or the opening if it’s missing. If it’s an electricity box door, look at the type of hinge too.
